Countdown

Christmas is 98 days away — but only ~70 business days. Deadlines live on one count, vacations on the other.

How long until the wedding, the deadline, the launch, the holiday? Pick a date and get calendar days, weeks-plus-days, and — the count that actually matters for work — business days excluding weekends. Past dates work too, showing days since.

Why people use this

Anyone with a date circled uses it: days until, weeks-plus-days, and the business-day count — because deadlines live on business days and vacations on calendar ones.

How it works

  1. Pick the target date.
  2. Read calendar days remaining.
  3. See the weeks + days breakdown.
  4. Check business days — the deadline number.
  5. Past dates count backward: days since.

Common questions

What is the difference between calendar days and business days?

Calendar days count everything; business days count Monday–Friday only. The gap is roughly 30%: 98 calendar days hold about 70 business days, and a "30-day notice" means 30 calendar days while "30 business days" is nearly six weeks. Contracts exploit the ambiguity: "net 30" invoices mean calendar days, but "5–7 business days" shipping stretches a week-plus. Legal deadlines vary by jurisdiction — some count calendar days unless the last lands on a weekend, others exclude weekends throughout. The practical rule: when a deadline matters, ask which count it uses, and compute business days explicitly for project plans — a 20-business-day sprint is four calendar weeks, not 20 days.

How do I plan backward from a date?

Anchor the deadline, then subtract milestones in business days — the method event planners and launch teams run. Example: product launch December 15 → freeze features 10 business days earlier (December 1), complete testing 15 days before that (November 10), lock scope 20 days before testing (mid-October). Buffers belong at the risky stages, not spread evenly — a 20% buffer on the testing block catches more disasters than padding everything. The psychology matters too: countdowns in weeks feel longer than the same span in days (14 weeks vs 98 days), which is why fitness challenges sell "6 weeks" and due-date apps show both. Use weeks for motivation, business days for commitments.

What about holidays in business-day counts?

This calculator counts Monday–Friday; federal holidays are not excluded — that is deliberate, because holiday schedules differ by employer, state, and country. The manual adjustment: subtract the holidays falling in your window (roughly one per month on average in the US). For exact contractual counts, the list matters: the US federal calendar has 11 holidays, but markets close for 9 (NYSE), banks follow the Federal Reserve schedule, and state employers add their own. When the number decides money — contract penalties, notice periods, visa windows — verify against the counterparty's official calendar, because "10 business days" means something different at a bank (closed Veterans Day) than at a retailer (open).
